HISTORIC SIGNING OF NHI PARTNER AGREEMENTS
Road Town, Tortola – Private health care providers in the Virgin Islands are moving to ensure that their patients receive the full benefits of the services provided under the National Health Insurance NHI Programme, when it is implemented on January 1, 2016.
NHI is a health financing system being introduced by the Government, designed to ensure that all legal residents of the Territory have equal access to necessary health services. Contributions will be shared based on one’s ability to pay, regardless of health risks such as age, occupation or pre-existing health conditions.
Three leading clinics officially and fully endorsed the initiative, when their Principals signed Participating Provider Agreements with the BVI Social Security Board on Wednesday December 2.
Mr. Alred Frett of B&F Medical Complex Ltd., Dr. K.P. Anderson of Dr. K. P. Anderson Ltd. and Mrs. Monique Donovan-Neita of Premier Dental, became the first credentialed health care providers to sign the Agreement. Mrs. Antoinette Skelton signed on behalf of the BVI Social Security Board.
The historic signing of the Participating Provider Agreements was held at the BVI Social Security Board’s conference room.
The Social Security (Amendment) Act, 2014, which established the National Health Insurance (NHI) System, took effect December 1.
The Act established the NHI Division, which will manage, monitor and administer the NHI. The Division will register beneficiaries and health care providers and facilities, maintain a record of all beneficiaries and contributors, collect contributions, process claims, make payments from the NHI Fund and supervise and control expenditure.
A similar partnership with the JIPA Network out of Florida, USA, was signed on October 1, providing for wide ranging access to the highest standards of quality healthcare service providers and facilities overseas.
